Beautiful trullo with private pool in rural setting - family friendly, sleeps 6

Trullo Mandorleto lies on a hill in a tranquil setting overlooking the valleys and medieval towns of Valle d'Itria. The 2Ha property with its Mediterranean garden and private swimming pool, century-old olive grove with fruit trees and local flora is peaceful and very private. It lies 12km from Ostuni and 5km from Ceglie Messapica also known as ‘città della gastronomia’ for its excellent cuisine and more than 60 restaurants serving local dishes at affordable prices.

The 19th-century trullo flanked by traditional ‘lamias’ is spacious (150m2). The house was fully renovated in 2012 using traditional materials to create an authentic trullo experience with modern comforts! Small archways, hidden alcoves and domed ceilings give it a mystical ambience that only a trullo can generate. All floors are made from ‘Trani’ marble, a honey-colored stone from local quarries. Windows have mosquito netting, traditional outer grills and shutters that can be left open at night to let in air. Walls up to 2m thick ensure that temperatures inside stay pleasantly cool during hot summer months.

With 3 double-bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, Mandorleto can comfortably sleep 6. A baby cot and high-chair can be provided upon request. The living room with 2 sofas, lounger and fire place is located in the main trullo. Bathrooms have walk-in showers, a bidet, toilet and wash basin. The spacious kitchen is bright and fully equipped for gourmet cooking with a dining table that seats 6-8 people. Double-doors lead to a terrace with stone table and 6 chairs for outdoor dining. The laundry room with washer & dryer is behind the kitchen and there is free Wi-Fi for your use.

Highlight is the swimming pool area overlooking our olive grove and surrounding countryside. There is a spacious terrace with outdoor shower where you can soak up the sun on comfortable sun beds or relax in the shade of the gazebo on warm summer afternoons. The gazebo has a stone table that comfortably seats 8 overlooking the pool and courtyard in front of the trullo, making it an ideal location for both day and night entertainment. Both lamias have large roof terraces with spectacular views. There is a small covered porch next to the trullo with stone table and 4 chairs and a well-lit BBQ area next to the kitchen terrace.

Our property is located approximately 100m from quiet a country lane and is reached via a gravel access road. The location is therefore very peaceful, without the sound of traffic! A parking area for up to 3 cars is located on our property outside the gate under the shade of olive trees. The house and swimming pool lie within a large, walled garden on an olive grove demarcated by dry stone walls along the west & east, a natural gulley along the south and a ravine in the north. Walks through the olive grove are highly recommended, especially in the early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are comfortable.

The area around our trullo is beautiful and worth exploring by walking along small country lanes that wind through olive groves and gardens with picturesque houses & trulli inhabited by local people. It is only a 10-minute walk to Seppunisi farm where you can buy local mozzarella, cheese and fresh dairy products. Shops and restaurants are in Ceglie Messapica where a summer festival is hosted in July and August with cultural events, food & art markets, live music and the famous Food & Wine festival.
The location is ideal for day trips to the seaside and visits to neighboring towns like Ostuni “the white city”, Alberobello the UNESCO town with over 1000 trulli and elegant Martina Franca, all within a 15-30 minute drive away. Though somewhat farther afield, the cultural towns of Lecce and Matera, the ancient sea port of Gallipoli and the spectacular southern coastline with its crystal clear, turquoise colored waters of the Adriatic and Ionian seas are also within easy reach.
