This is how holiday rental owners described Sarnico

Sarnico is an important commercial and touristy centre on the right side of Lake Iseo, where it begins to get narrower to become Fiume Oglio.

The village, which is protected at the beginning by hills, leans softly forwards to the lake and it’s exposed. The hilly elevation and the lake ...

breeze mitigate the climate. Large and airy squares, the lakeside and shops, on the lakeshore, give touristy vivacity to this centre, so it becomes a pleasant place where you can stay. Its geographic position and its outskirts (where there are many villas, green spaces, amusement and spectacular foreshortenings on the lake) offer tourists an ideal benchmark for holidays. The territory was already inhabited in prehistoric times in fact remains of a fortified village was discovered after an operation of drainage of the lake bottom. Remains of Roman age came to light in 1907 during the construction of Villa Faccanoni and along all the coast near Predore. But first documents go back at 862 a.C.The walk, for who loves to do some shopping, has a medieval semicircular structure with the back turned towards the mountain. Some remains of castles of Counts Martinengo are still visible.
The historic centre is well-known with the name of “Contrada“. Going along “via Lantieri” (in a multicoloured setting of shops) you can still note some architectonic proofs of the old village: portals, narrow streets, passages under arcades, old houses with solid walls.
In a narrow street you can see the Municipal Museom “G. Bellini”. The picture-gallery is housed in the oldest part of “Palazzo Gervasoni”, a XV century building standing on the highest point of the old town center of Sarnico.Sarnico is also the centre of architectonic models, which are considered important examples of modern style in Lombardy (all works of Giuseppe Sommaruga).
Starting from the nursery school in S.S.Redentore square, you can go up towards the main road and see where the cemetery front rises (inside it’s possible to admire the Mausoleum of Faccanoni’s family).Going on towards Predore (3 Km.), next to shipyards Riva, you can see Villa Surre. Going back towards the centre of Sarnico in “via Veneto”, on the coast, there is Villa Faccanoni. The route concludes in XX Settembre square with Villa Passeri.
In proximity to Villa Faccanoni, on the lake it’s possible to visit the characteristic church “Stella Maris” (1935) that is for years the starting point of the traditional summer procession of enlightened boats.
From Sarnico also depart several nature trails with panoramic lake view.
For example the path Forcella-Molere runs along the crest of the hills, about 400 mts high, just behind the center of Sarnico, in a panoramic position on the Iseo Lake; it is a mountain path, surrounded by an unspoilt copse facing the southern panoramic Basso Sebino.

LAKE ISEO

Lake Iseo is located between the larger and more famous Lake Garda and Lake Como.
It’s along and narrow lake winding North South and sheltered by mountains.
It’s a more manageable size, however and a great destination for travellers who have already visited and appreciated the principal italian lakes or simply for holiday-makers who prefer exploring off the beaten track.
Lake Iseo has the biggest european island of lake full of tourists coming from United Kingdom,Usa,Germany,France,Holland and Scandinavia
Lake Iseo is full of fish which is served at restaurants alla round its shores.
It’s also a richly agricultural area, with small vineyard, allotments and olive groves stuffed with abundance.
Ancient chestnut groves are found on the island slopes and in the autumn we found dozens of italians out gathering sweet chestnuts and mushrooms. As well as fishing, agricolture and tourism, the lake is renowed for the net making industry.
The islanders of Monteisola in particolar are famous for their historic skill at making fishing nets, and also tennis, volley ball and football nets.
The lake is close to the towns of Bergamo and Brescia, and it has fairly good transport connections with a useful little railway running from Brescia up to the eastern shore of the lake and through the mountains valley to the north,The valle Camonica.
Monteisola is quite a nice italian destination for walkers. The ancient via Valeriana contours along above the lake, linking Brescia with the valle Camonica to the north and this has been marked and signposted for hikers.
Most of the lakeside towns have a picturesque promenade,a few interesting buildings and some winding historic lanes.
There are some interesting tourist attractions around or in easy reach of lake Iseo, includine some rather visual sights.
For example the famous Piramidi of Zone bizzarre geological formations where erosion has left the pinnacles surmounted by boulders, like high skinny mushrooms.
At the southern end of the lake is the Franciacorta,a nice area of countryside which is famous for its wine:with vineyards, monasteries and villas to admire as well as a wetland nature riserve
